Widower Criticizes Lax Safety at Jökulsárlón

The widower of a woman who died in an accident at Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland two years ago said that while he feels some sympathy for the captain of the amphibious vehicle that ran over his wife, safety precautions at the lagoon were totally lacking.

Initial responses to a proposal to take the 5,000 and 10,000 króna bills out of circulation to counter tax evasion show that society is not yet ready for such a radical idea, according to Iceland’s Minister of Finance Benedikt Jóhannesson.
