Thousands Participate in Sixth Annual Slut Walk

Thousands of people demonstrated against sex offense, gender-based violence and slut shaming in downtown Reykjavík on Saturday, as part of the sixth annual Druslugangan, or Slut Walk. One of its organizers, Hjalti Vigfússon, estimates that around 15,000 people participated in the walk.

Katrín Tanja Wins World CrossFit Games, Again

Icelandic athlete Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir defended her 2015 title World’s Fittest Woman by winning the CrossFit Games in California last night. She follows in the footsteps of her countrywoman Annie Mist Þórisdóttir, CrossFit world champion in 2011 and 2012.

Game of Thrones to Return to Iceland

Season 7 of Game of Thrones will be filmed in Iceland, Northern Ireland and Spain, as HBO has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. Iceland has appeared in the series before, where Icelandic landscape has mostly been used for scenes north of the wall.

Police to Keep Quiet about Sexual Assaults

Chief of Police in Vestmannaeyjar Páley Borgþórsdóttir told Fréttablaðið today that the police will not inform the media about sexual assaults which may occur during the outdoor festival Þjóðhátíð, July 29-Agust 1, until after the investigation has been concluded.

Dorrit Mousaieff, wife of President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, jumped into the lap of Icelandic goalkeeper Hannes Halldórsson’s after Iceland’s win over England at Euro 2016 in Nice last night. Dorrit also danced a victory dance with Eggert Ólafsson, former chair of KSÍ.
