Most Ski Slopes Open Today

Ski resorts all around Iceland are open today, Maundy Thursday, and most are expecting a busy day as today is the first public holiday of the five-day-long Easter weekend. However, the capital’s main ski areas are set to remain closed.

Spring isn’t quite here yet, judging by the recent snowfall. While some have grown tired of the snow, others are happy to hit the slopes; ski resorts will be open across the country today. Outside Reykjavík, most slopes in Bláfjöll and Skálafell will be open from 10 am to 5 pm.

Ski Resorts Open across Iceland

All the snow which has fallen in Iceland in the past weeks have resulted in ski resorts being able to open across the country. The slopes are being prepared in Hlíðarfjall above Akureyri, North Iceland, and Bláfjöll near Reykjavík and it is hoped that they can open today.

A cross-country skiing course which was to be held in Ísafjörður, the West Fjords, next weekend has been canceled due to a lack of snow. There isn’t even any snow on the mountain tops, local news website.
