Yesterday, the Reykjavík District Court sentenced two men to three years in prison for robbing the Landsbanki branch in Borgartún, Reykjavík, at the end of December, mbl.is reports.
“When determining the sentence, one must take into account that the accused committed an armed robbery in an unusually aggressive manner. There were a considerable number of people at the bank, clients as well as staff. A video recording reveals the men proceeded methodically and without hesitation and committed the robbery in a short time,” the sentence reads.
One of the men was armed with the replica of a handgun, the other one with a knife. Their faces were covered.
They jumped over the counter, and one of them held the gun to a teller’s head. They left the bank with money in several currencies, including ISK 558,000 (USD 4,300, EUR 3,900) and EUR 1,080 (ISK 154,000, USD 1,200). After being sought by police for the rest of the day, the two finally came forward by midnight that same day and told police where they had hidden the loot.
