A man in his twenties is on a ventilator after being stabbed by another young man in Reykjavík early Sunday morning. His condition is said to be stable. The attacker was arrested shortly after the stabbing occurred and will be in police custody until Wednesday, according to RÚV.
The victim reportedly lost a lot of blood and underwent an operation at Landspítali National University Hospital.
The attack occurred in front of student housing in Sæmundargata. The two men, both born in 1989, know each other, mbl.is reports. A dispute came up between them, which resulted in a fist fight. The two men fought until one of them stabbed the other in the back. They then walked away, each in his own direction. A woman, who stood on the balcony of one of the student apartments, alerted the victim that his back was bleeding. She had noticed his light-colored sweater turn red and asked him to come to the entrance of the building.
Police arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, and the victim was transported to hospital.
