An interactive app available online helps users understand Team Iceland’s possibilities for advancing to the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup. RÚV reported first. By choosing a team and inputting different match outcomes, the app shows what match results need to be in order for their preferred team from Group D to qualify. The app was made by Reddit user @ihutc, who calls themselves “an unapologetic Iceland fan.”
As the app makes clear, Iceland must win their match against Croatia tomorrow in order to qualify for the Round of 16. With a win, Iceland would end the group stage with four points. Their advancement is also dependent on Argentina winning their match against Nigeria. Since Argentina and Nigeria each have a chance of ending the stage with four points, goal difference could be the determining factor in which team advances alongside Croatia, currently leading the group with 6 points.
Readers are encouraged to try the app for themselves.
