Today is Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson’s 50th birthday, RÚV reports. The president started his special day bright and early with a walk on Helgafell mountain alongside staff from the presidential office.
Upon returning to his official residence Bessastaðir, Guðni was surprised with a live performance of the birthday song by Fjallabræður men’s choir, who were then invited to join him for some birthday coffee.
Like most of his countrymen, the President can be expected to spend his afternoon watching Iceland’s match against Croatia in the World Cup – birthday or not.
