Tonight we play Albania at home in Reykjavík.
A win will move us closer to the World Cup in Brazil next year.
We have three games to finish the task, and it’s best if we win all three as then we will have a playoff with one of the seven second placed teams in the nine European qualification groups. One will get left out, without the opportunity for a playoff while the eight remaining nations will play for four places in Brazil.
The next two games, against Albania and Slovenia, will be played at home, and the last game, against Norway, will be held in Oslo in October. Norway too are fighting for the second place in the group.
It will be a do or die match for the countries in the run for a ticket to Brazil.
Switzerland will come out on top. They have the best team but last Friday, Iceland stunned them in Bern, coming back from 4-1 to a last minute draw, 4-4.
Iceland have a young and good attacking team.
Our problem is the defense.
If you want to know how it will end here are the upcoming results:
Iceland 3 Albania 1
Iceland 3 Slovenia 2
Norway 2 Iceland 4
In the playoff, Iceland will play England and the first game will go:
England 1 Iceland 1
In the second leg at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík the result will be;
Iceland 3 England 1
So Iceland will go to the World Cup, not England.
Will we win? No, next year’s World Cup winner in Brazil will be Argentina.
