Senior officers of the German frigate Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ordered a guard around the ship last night, which is docked in Reykjavík, to prevent Icelanders from attending an on-board party. Marines had invited girls as young as 14 to party with them.

A concerned mother called the police yesterday afternoon complaining about her daughter having been invited to a party on board the ship in the evening where there was supposed to be drinking, Fréttabladid reports.
Apparently German marines had distributed invitations to Icelandic girls downtown earlier in the day. The police contacted the frigate’s superiors, who were outraged and ordered that no Icelanders were to be allowed on board in the evening.
The frigate arrived in Reykjavík harbor on a friendly visit on Monday and is docked at the Midbakki pier. It was open to the public yesterday and will also be open to visitors today between 2 pm and 4 pm.
The 6,275-ton vessel was made in 1996. It is 140 meters long and 16.7 meters wide. It was designed for submarine warfare but can also used for air defense if necessary. It has a crew of 199 people.
