An updated version of the institutional contract for nurses employed at Landspítali National University Hospital was signed around 11 pm last night. Chair of the Nurses’ Union Elsa B. Friðfinnsdóttir encourages her colleagues to withdraw their resignations.

Both Elsa and director of Landspítali Björn Zoëga told RÚV that they are satisfied with the agreement but wouldn’t disclose its content before it has been presented to nurses, as will happen at meetings today.
“We celebrate this milestone, to have reached an agreement which is reasonable for both parties,” commented Björn, as reported on ruv.is, adding that he had always been optimistic that the wage dispute could be resolved. Almost 300 nurses had resigned. “I sincerely hope that everyone will come back.”
When asked whether she is optimistic that the new contract will make the nurses change their minds, Elsa stated, “I know they had high expectations … and I hope that they find this a big enough step to withdraw their resignations. But each person must decide for themselves.”
Nurses will have at least 24 hours to consider the offer.

Iceland’s northernmost island is no longer one island. In a recent surveillance excursion to the Kolbeinsey, the Icelandic Coast Guard discovered that the island is now divided in two.

The road to Höfn, a 1,690-person harbor town by the fjord Hornafjörður, is lined with reindeer. Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.

Sin Fang will celebrate the release of his third album with a release concert in Iðnó on June 12. Flowers was released in February by Morr Music and has been well received by music enthusiasts and critics alike. The concert will be supported by Vök, this year’s winners of the Icelandic Music Experiments.
