Arnaldur Indriðason’s Strange Shores (working title) went straight to the top of the bestsellers’ list of crime fiction in France and to third spot in the overall bestsellers’ list when it was released in French translation (Étranges rivages, translated by Eric Boury) on February 7.
The book has been widely praised by the French press, as reported in a press release from Icelandic publisher Forlagið.
“This is a tour de force, pure magic,” Sabrina Champenois at Libération wrote.
Télérama also gave the book a glowing review: “It is without doubt the most beautiful book in the series.”
The book, titled Furðustrandir in Icelandic (released in 2010), is currently being translated into English.

The exchange of power in Iceland took place yesterday when the government of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson formally took over from that of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir and ministers exchange keys.

One of the last tasks of Steingrímur J. Sigfússon while in office as minister of industries and innovation was to issue a regulation on Monday extending the reserve for whales in Faxaflói bay, off Reykjavík in Southwest Iceland. The regulation took affect at midnight.
