Last weekend, Icelandic actor, director and writer Benedikt Erlingsson was awarded Best New Director at the San Sebastián film festival in Spain for his film Hross í oss (Of Horses and Men).
The San Sebastián Film Festival belongs to the A category of film festivals of which there is a total of 14 in the world.
Obviously pleased with the award, Benedikt told ruv.is that receiving an award at such a prestigious festival was a huge honor. “The film has acquired wings and perhaps I get to ride this winged horse.”
The prize money amounts to EUR 50,000 (ISK 8.1 million, USD 68,000), which is among the largest amounts one can receive at film festivals. The winner shares the prize with a Spanish distributer which means that Of Horses and Men has been ensured distribution in Spain.
