It is hoped that Microsoft founder Bill Gates will participate in the 2013 international Reykjavík Bridge Festival, which has been held in the country for over 30 years. Last year approximately 130 foreign players were involved.

The Bridge Association of Iceland also wooed another American billionaire, Warren Buffet, but he did not accept their invitation. Both Gates and Buffet are well known bridge players, Morgunblaðið reports.
“We are hoping that Gates will accept our invitation. We have contacted him both through foreign players with whom he is familiar and his companies,” said Jafet Ólafsson, the association’s president.
The Icelandic Bridge Tournament, in which 12 teams competed, took place last week and concluded on Sunday.

Icelandic mountaineer Ingólfur Geir Gissurarson made it up the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest at 8,848 meters, by the South East Ridge at 1 am Icelandic time last night. At 50, he is the fifth and oldest Icelander to make the climb.
