“I wanted to open a shop which makes customers go ‘wow’ when they walk through the door,” says Alfreð Chiarolanzio, owner of the new candy shop Nammibarinn (“The Candy Bar”) in Reykjavík.
The Candy Bar contains 430 varieties of candy and Alfreð believes that this is the largest selection of candy available in the country. People have told him that their bags are not big enough to fit all the different types of candy. For a long time, Alfreð had dreamed of opening a shop which sells only candy. He has worked in the confectionary industry for a long time and felt that it needed a store where shopping was an experience for the customer, visir.is reports.
Over in Selfoss town, a new Domino’s Pizza branch was opened last Saturday. Patrick Doyle, President and CEO of Domino’s Pizza, flew in on his private jet to attend the opening, cut the ribbon and bake a pizza for one lucky customer. This was Doyle’s first visit to Iceland after becoming president, but he is known for being very easy-going and he also stars in many of the company’s commercials, Fréttablaðið reports.
Domino’s opened its first branch in Iceland in August 1993 and there are now 15 branches across the country. According to Doyle, it is realistic to open at least three more branches in Iceland, and he hopes that they will be as well received as the one in Selfoss, mbl.is reports.
