Parts of the West Fjords are still subject to avalanche risk after heavy snowfall in the region in recent days. Five avalanches fell in the Northwest around midday today. The affected areas include Patreksfjörður, Flateyri, Hnífsdalur, Ísafjörður and Súðavík, ruv.is reports.
The avalanches did not fall within any of the inhabited areas and did not cause any damage but due to the weather and heavy snowstorms over the past days, there is no electricity or hot water to heat up the houses in Ísafjörður, the largest town in the West Fjords.
