Disney’s Snow White Was Icelandic

In the home of Anna Sigríður Garðarsdóttir there is an impressive collection of memorabilia from Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

The reason for her and her siblings’ interest in the cartoon and especially its main character is that it is believed to have been inspired by their mother, Kristín Sölvadóttir.

Kristín was engaged to Charlie Thorson, a Canadian of Icelandic descent, who worked as an illustrator and character creator at Disney, ruv.is reports.

The wedding didn’t happen but Charlie told Kristín that he would make her immortal—which he did, in his depiction of Snow White.

Her children say the cartoon evokes memories of their mother, whom they describe as beautiful and good-natured, like the fairytale princess.
