European Commission Given Intercession in Icesave

icesave-logoThe EFTA Court in Luxembourg granted the European Commission (EC) permission to intercede in the case of the EFTA Supervision Authority (ESA) against Iceland in its dispute with British and Dutch authorities over Landsbanki’s Icesave deposits yesterday.

The EC requested intercession at the end of March and yesterday the EFTA Court ruled that the EC has the authority to participate in the court proceedings and access all dossiers, visir.is reports.

The verdict was signed by Carl Baudenbacher, president of the EFTA Court, and court secretary Skúli Magnússon.

harboringhomegrown_psThe road to Höfn, a 1,690-person harbor town by the fjord Hornafjörður, is lined with reindeer. Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.  more
