The Gourmand Awards is a festival which awards the best cookbooks and wine books of the year. Recently, the 17th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2012 was held in Paris.
Nanna Rögnvaldsdóttir, a well-known chef in Iceland, entered her book, Jólamatur Nönnu, (“Nanna’s Christmas Food”) in the category of Easy Recipes. This category is the largest in the festival and therefore one of the most difficult to win. Nanna’s book came in fourth with the comment that it was very personal and well explained, mbl.is reports.
The book Our Daily Bread, which is in reality the biography of a family run bakery in South-Ireland, came in second in the Bread category. The photographs for this book were taken by Icelandic photographer Arna Rúnarsdóttir. Anna studied photography in Edinburgh but had mostly shot portraits before this assignment came along, so she is of course very happy with the results, mbl.is reports.
