Just ten years ago, only six hotel restaurants were open in the capital region on New Year’s Eve. Now, you can choose from 27 restaurants.
No fast food restaurants are open, so forget about Subway or hot dogs on that night. You should, if you can, taste hangikjöt (smoked lamb), a delicacy which has been on our dinner tables at this time of year through the centuries.
But you should make a reservation with so few restaurants open. Otherwise you could end up eating snow, on the last day of the year.
A record number of foreign tourists are visiting Iceland to celebrate the New Year this year.
