Icelandic MP Calls for Vote of No Confidence

MP for opposition party The Movement Þór Saari has announced that his party would seek a vote of no confidence on the ruling minority government.

The proposal calls for the suspension of parliament on February 28 and for a caretaker government with representatives of all parties to govern until the upcoming elections on April 27, ruv.is reports.

Þór says that the government must be suspended because of problems passing the constitutional bill despite the draft having been widely supported in last year’s referendum. Þór argues that a government that cannot follow the will of the people is no longer fit to govern.

RÚV reports that 30 parliamentarians are likely to vote ‘no’ and 28 ‘yes.’ It is unclear how the remaining five would vote.
