A special investigation into prostitution and human trafficking in Southwest Iceland launched by police in September last year proved more extensive than expected. The cases of 86 individuals, being investigated for soliciting prostitution, have been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, which will decide whether to further pursue the cases, ruv.is reports.
According to ruv.is, police report that there is no evidence to suggest human trafficking is involved in the current cases.
Soliciting sexual services carries a jail sentence of up to one year.
