The National Museum of Iceland is celebrating its 150th anniversary tomorrow, opening the celebratory exhibitions Icelandic Silverwork in the Bogasalur hall and Silversmith in Avocation in Horn at 3 pm.
Museum director Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir will welcome visitors and former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir will give an address.
Sverrir Kristinsson, chair of the Heritage and History Friend Association of the National Museum, will present it with a gift and then Minister of Education and Culture Katrín Jakobsdóttir will formally open the exhibitions.
From 11 am to 10 pm, there will be a diverse program for the entire family at the museum, including a dance and art workshop and performances by various bands and choirs, such as Ylja and Hjaltalín.
Admission is free.
At 9:10 pm a documentary about the National Museum of Iceland will be aired on national broadcaster RÚV.
