Sheep farmer Arnar Gústafsson and his girlfriend Edda Björk take shifts watching over the nearly 300 ewes and helping them give birth 24/7 for about two months or until the last lamb is born. In Iceland, the arrival of lambs is synonymous with the arrival of summer. The lambing season is currently at its height.

In Kirkjubæjarklaustur and vicinity ash filled the air and made it impossible to travel and in fact quite difficult be outside at all. It would have been meaningless to take photos.
Monique Starr works at Hótel Geirland, close to Kirkjubæjarklaustur and she writes: “When we woke up in the morning at 7 am it was dark like in the night, darker than I have ever seen a night in Iceland (I was here one winter). The visibility was 0 meters, so we couldn't see anything.”
The ash layer an the ground was probably close to 1 cm at that time.
Suddenly at 13.50 it became brighter and people could go outside. As we have learned before the farmers tried to save their sheep and get them back into the house. About half the sheep had already been let out.
