Keflavik Airport Chosen as Europe’s Best

Keflavik Airport has been chosen as Europe’s best airport in the category of airports that less than two million passengers travel through every year, rúv.is reports.

The award was given by the Airports Council International.

Out of all European airports, Keflavik Airport received the highest total score in a service survey conducted in 2011. However, since the airport had been placed in a new category of smaller airports, it was not eligible for first place in the category of all airports.

In 2009, Keflavik Airport was chosen as Europe’s best airport and in 2010 it came in second. In addition, it ranked third worldwide in 2004 in the category of airports with less than five million passengers per year.

According to the Airports Council International, Keflavik Airport excels in total passenger satisfaction, staff courtesy and helpfulness, easy connecting routes, cozy atmosphere, hygiene and security check waiting times.

Last year, almost 2,2 million passengers traveled through the airport but the survey covered the year 2010. Therefore in the next survey the airport should return to the category of Europe’s largest airports.
