Following the ongoing extensive investigative reports of RÚV’s news magazine Kastljós about the confessions of a pedophile and interviews with his victims, police called him in for questioning and yesterday he was remanded to two weeks’ custody.
The man is believed to have sexually abused up to 50 children in the past decades. Many of these crimes have since become invalid before the law but he is now being probed for violations he is suspected of having committed in recent years, visir.is reports.
The police are said to have been given a copy of the videotape where the man confesses to these violations on hidden camera on December 21 but to not having taken action until the story broke on Kastljós on Monday.
A number of people have come forward to Kastljós wishing to discuss their experiences of the man. The coverage will continue tonight and can be watched on television, starting on RÚV at 7:35 pm, and online on ruv.is (in Icelandic).
