The young band RetRoBot from Selfoss, south Iceland, stood up as the winner of the annual talent competition Músíktilraunir (Music Experiments) 2012, where ten bands took the stage on Saturday.

The competition, which has sometimes proven a springboard to stardom, was held for the 30th time this year, Fréttablaðið reports.
Previous winners include Of Monsters And Men (2010), which in recent months have boasted considerable success in Iceland and abroad; signing with Universal last year.
“We just flipped out; we did not expect this,” commented Daði Freyr Pétursson of RetRoBot on placing first. “We aim for world domination, no question. We have received a good reaction and will perform extensively in the near future.”
The other band members are Gunnlaugur Bjarnason, Kristján Pálmi Ásmundsson and Guðmundur Einar Vilbergsson, all of whom are 19 years old.
Daði Freyr defines their music as electro indie-rock; he was also named the competition’s rafheili (literally: “electro brain”).
Daði Freyr started playing last summer and the band was founded in January 2012.

The road to Höfn, a 1,690-person harbor town by the fjord Hornafjörður, is lined with reindeer. Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.
