A man has been sentenced to custody until February 15 on suspicion of having shot at a house in Eyrarbakki, South Iceland, around 5 am Saturday morning. The incident is believed to be related to an alleged case of sexual abuse.

The police first received notice of two men in a black vehicle disturbing residents on Eyrargata in the town and shortly after of a shot having been fired.

The shooting is thought to be in connection with a woman’s comments on a Facebook page campaigning to have the identities of convicted child abusers revealed, Fréttablaðið reports.

The woman wrote that her stepfather had abused her sexually but later deleted her comment explaining that her house had been shot at and that the bullet almost hit the window her boyfriend was standing by.

The police stopped the suspects’ car in the Þrengsli pass and arrested three men and one woman. A shotgun was confiscated. All were questioned but two of the men and the woman released afterwards.

In other news, a man in his seventies suffered serious injuries after his 19-year-old grandson assaulted him along with another man in his home in Skagaströnd, North Iceland, early yesterday morning.

The motive of the assault is believed to be the victim’s suspected history of sexual abuse against two of his grandsons, the assailant's cousins. 

The man called the police himself and reported the attack at 5:30 am yesterday morning. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Akureyri where he was admitted with severe head trauma to the ICU.

The man is conscious and his condition is stable. The two assailants, who had left the scene when the police and ambulance workers arrived, were later arrested.

There has been extensive coverage of sex offenses in the Icelandic media in recent weeks following the report of confessions of a pedophile on national television. Since then a number of old and new cases of child abuse have been reported to the police.
