Sixteen Year Murder Sentence Confirmed

The Supreme Court of Iceland has confirmed Reykjavík District Court’s verdict of a 16-year prison sentence over Redouane Naoui, a 40-year-old man, for manslaughter. He stabbed a man with a knife in the throat at a Reykjavík nightclub in July 2011.

The convict is also to pay the victim’s daughter over ISK 3 million (USD 24,000, EUR 18,000) in damages, Morgunblaðið reports.

Naoui stated that he had been too drunk at the time to remember what had happened. Among evidence in this case were recordings from the nightclub’s security cameras.

The police confiscated a knife at the scene. There proved to be blood on the 25.8-centimeter blade and on the convict’s shirt. A DNA analysis concluded that the blood was most likely from the victim.
