The Icelandic Met Office has issued a storm warning for West Iceland today. Meteorologist Óli Þór Árnason stated it will start to rain this morning and that the wind speed will gradually increase throughout the day.
“Around dinner time it is expected to have reached gale force … especially around mountains,” Óli Þór told ruv.is. The stormiest weather is forecast at Reykjanes, Kjalarnes, Hafnarfjall, Snæfellsnes and the West Fjords.
The Night of Lights festival is being held in Reykjanesbær on Reykjanes this weekend but organizers say they’re prepared for the storm.
The festival’s managing director Valgerður Guðmundsdóttir said a Plan B is being made for the fireworks show which is the festival’s highlight and is scheduled for tonight but it may be postponed until Sunday evening.
