The Harpa concert hall and conference center started a new chapter in its performance history last Tuesday night with its very first film premier.

The film premiered was a documentary about a cancer patient battling prostate cancer. Blái Naglinn or “The Blue Nail”, tells the story of Jóhannes V. Nordal.
The evening started with a symbolic performance of a choir of 220 choir members from several local choirs featuring the internationally acclaimed Icelandic performer Garðar Cortes accompanied by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra.
Every year 220 individuals are diagnosed with prostate cancer and one person per week dies of cancer, ruv.is reports.
The documentary will air on RÚV, the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation’s television channel on Sunday April 1.
From April 19, the Blue Nail symbol will be available for purchase with all profits going towards radiotherapy equipment for the cancer ward at Landspítali University Hospital in Reykjavík.

One of the last tasks of Steingrímur J. Sigfússon while in office as minister of industries and innovation was to issue a regulation on Monday extending the reserve for whales in Faxaflói bay, off Reykjavík in Southwest Iceland. The regulation took affect at midnight.

The government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir will formally step down after a state council meeting with President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at his residence Bessastaðir at 11 am today. At 3 pm, the new government of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson will attend a state council meeting and afterwards formally take power.
