The Center for Puppet Arts to Close its Doors

Brúðuheimar or the Center for Puppet Arts is a popular tourist destination in the small community of Borgarnes on the west coast of Iceland. Yesterday, owners Bernd Ogrodnik and Hildur M.Jónsdóttir announced the center would close its doors for good in Borgarnes, in part due to the poor state of the national economy at present.

The Center for Puppet Arts is a center for arts and culture. It was built around the art of puppetry and has been known for interlinked performances, workshops, museum and a vibrant café in the beautiful Englander’s Bay.

Its operations will not come to a complete end, as the managing parties, husband and wife Bernd Ogrodnik and Hildur M. Jónsdóttir have finalized a contract with the National Theater in Reykjavík, where the puppet shows will continue to be shown.

“We feel terrible having to announce the final closure of the Center for Puppet Arts in Borgarnes,” the couple told radio RÚV.
