In Iceland's northernmost town, Raufarhöfn, Northeast Iceland—a great place to enjoy the endless midnight sun—seven houses are up for sale.

In the southern part of the West Fjords there are 22 properties on the market. In Patreksfjörður, Tálknafjörður and Bíldudalur, some of the properties are dead cheap.

In Höfn, one of two areas which shared the highest average temperature on mainland Iceland in 2012, located near Vatnajökull in the southeast, there are 23 properties and in Mývatn, one of the top tourist spots in the country, there are nine properties waiting to be snapped up.

harboringhomegrown_psThe road to Höfn, a 1,690-person harbor town by the fjord Hornafjörður, is lined with reindeer. Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.  more
