The search for the most beautiful word in the Icelandic language has begun.
Today, the University of Iceland’s School of Humanities and RÚV, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, launched the search, asking for suggestions from everyone that uses the Icelandic language, and a brief explanation of their choice.
RUV’s language advisor Anna Sigríður Þráinsdóttir, told ruv.is that everyone is welcome to participate.
“We expect the words to be of all sorts. They don’t need to be nouns, adjectives or verbs. They can be slang, adopted words and even exclamations. Our main goal is to gain a substantial database of the most beautiful words the Icelandic language contains. And I don’t think that will be a problem.”
Anyone can submit their favorite Icelandic word simply by logging on to the web site fegurstaordid.hi.is or by emailing the School of Humanities at email@example.com. The closing date is October 22, 2013.
