Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson and Andri Snaer Magnason were awarded with the Icelandic Literary Awards for their books Aldingardurinn (“The Orchard”) and Draumalandid (“Land of Dreams”) on Friday.
The authors received the awards from Iceland’s President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at a special ceremony at his residency in Bessastadir, outside Reykjavík. Fréttabladid reports.
Ólafsson’s short story collection Aldingardurinn was awarded in the fiction category and Draumalandid “a self-help book for a scared nation” by Magnason was awarded in the category of educational and general literature.
This is the second time Magnason has received a literary award. A play based on his book is to be staged at the Theater in Hafnarfjördur and a documentary inspired by his work is planned.
Aldingardurinn by Ólafsson was recently published in the US and has been praised by critics.
