The music festival has raised significant attention in recent years and has always been well attended, Morgunbladid reports.
“It is always good to get a pat on the back and recognition for one’s work. It is an encouragement for us,” Magni Ásgeirsson said when he accepted the Eyrarrós from the president’s wife, Dorrit Moussaieff, who is the award’s patron.
The prize is ISK 1.5 million (USD 12,000, EUR 8,500) and a trophy designed by sculptor Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir.
