Iceland Eruption Affects Air Traffic in Norway

Air traffic in north Norway has now been banned due to fear that ash fall from the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull glacier in south Iceland might reduce visibility.

Flights to and from Iceland have not been affected by the eruption.

“We have closed the aviation area between Bodoe and Tromsoe and are considering closing the aviation area all the way south to Trondheim,” Sindre Aanonsen, spokesperson for the Norwegian air traffic control center, told AFP, mbl.is reports.

Aanonsen said there hadn’t been any problems because of the eruption yet, but “you can never be too careful.”

According to ruv.is, a new forecast for ash distribution assumes severe disturbances to flights in Norway, Sweden and Russia tomorrow.

However, the eruption will not affect flights to and from Keflavík International Airport in Iceland.
