There is still debate as to whether an eruption will start in Grímsvötn. Early this morning there was added activity measured on the earthquake meters. The equipment trembled and for a while there was some speculation on the possibility that maybe a samll eruption had already started. But a little later the idea was rejected.
The flood in Gígja is now decreasing again. The river is filled with big chunks of ice, but the largest icebergs don’t get far away from the glacier. In the next 48 hours the volcano will be watched closely. A group a scientists flew over Grímsvötn on Wednesday afternoon and saw no indication of volcanic activity.Photos: Grímsvötn 2004.
