The authors Guðrún Eva Mínervudóttir and Páll Björnsson were presented with the Icelandic Literature Awards at a celebratory ceremony at the presidential residence Bessastaðir on Wednesday.
“There was such a flood of good books and therefore it is particularly pleasing for me to have won the award. I was very satisfied with this book and allowed myself to hope for the first time that I would be presented with the award,” Guðrún Eva told Fréttablaðið.
She was awarded in the fiction category for her novel Allt með kossi vekur (“Everything awakens with a kiss”).
Páll was awarded in the non-fiction category for his book about Icelandic independence hero Jón Sigurðsson, Jón forseti allur? Táknmynd þjóðhetju frá andláti til samtíðar.
“The award came as a pleasant surprise,” Páll commented. He has studied Jón’s heritage for the past years.
