tjarnarbio_psThe Icelandic movie Svartur á leik (“Black’s Game”), directed by Óskar Thór Axelsson, was premiered at Smárabíó movie theatre last night. The movie is based on a book of the same title, written by Stefán Máni, and depicts the Reykjavík underworld back in 1999.

Þorvaldur Davíð Kristjánsson, who plays the leading role, flew from Hollywood to attend the premier. The movie guests were thrilled with the film, although some mentioned that it was quite brutal at times, mbl.is reports.

The movie received a very positive review in Fréttablaðið today. Critic Atli Fannar Bjarkason wrote that the harsh reality of the underworld is not sugar-coated in the film. Shocking violence is depicted and mounds of drugs disappear into the nostrils of the leading characters.

Atli’s conclusion is that the actors’ performances are good and that the movie is both entertaining and exciting, awarding the movie four stars out of five.
