EMI: Icelandic Company Jingle Resembles White Stripes Song

money-coins_goThe record label EMI contacted the Icelandic microcredit company Hraðpeningar (“Fast Money”) just under a month ago, complaining that the company’s jingle, used in a radio commercial bore close resemblance to a passage from the White Stripes’ track Seven Nations Army, released on the album Elephant, which was one of the most popular songs in 2003.

According to Hörður Harðarson, who works for the company that handles Hraðpeningar’s marketing campaigns, the company does not feel that the jingle was too similar to the White Stripes’ song, but they did not want to get involved in a legal dispute. The company has now switched the jingle for a guitar-riff and with that the matter is solved and Hraðpeningar will not be forced to pay a settlement to EMI or White Stripes, Fréttablaðið reports.
