“The need is great this year and we cannot see that the condition is better, rather the opposite,” chair of Mæðrastyrksnefnd Ragnhildur G. Guðmundsdóttir told Fréttablaðið.
Ragnhildur states that the number of people in need has increased among senior citizens, young people and large families. “These groups find themselves in a very tight situation.”
“We have been accepting donations since November and we have calculated that we will hand out more than 3,000 food packages,” Ragnhildur elaborated.
“But there are several individual behind each package so the number of those who take advantage of our services is significantly larger,” she added.
Mæðrastyrksnefnd enjoys the support of various associations, private persons and companies and Ragnhildur wanted to express her gratitude for the trust the charity is shown.
