Icelandic Sign Language to be Celebrated

The Day of Icelandic Sign Language will be held for the first time on Monday February 11.

In celebration of the event, basic introductions into Icelandic sign language will be held at schools and institutions, as stated on the website of the University of Iceland.

Minister of Education, Science and Culture Katrín Jakobsdóttir will visit kindergartens and the Icelandic Sign Language dictionary app will be introduced.

The Research Institute for the Study of Sign Language and the Language Council on Icelandic Sign Language will hold a seminar on issues relating to deaf children at 3 pm in Oddi, room 101, at the University of Iceland.

Former President of Iceland and patron of Nordic sign languages Vigdís Finnbogadóttir will open the event and Minister Katrín will address the audience.
