Surveillance Cameras to be Installed on Reykjavík Buses

Reykjavík City bus company Strætó bs. is considering installing surveillance cameras in all its buses at a cost of around ISK 600,000 (USD 4,750, EUR 3,630) per vehicle.

According to director of Strætó, Reynir Jónsson, the system is currently being tested on one of the company’s buses, ruv.is reports.

Violence against bus drivers and passengers is an increasing problem in Iceland, Reynir says, and cameras are used in most neighboring countries.

The operation will be carried out in discussion with drivers and passengers, Reynir emphasizes.
