The sixth Sequences real time art festival, Sequences VI, opens in the Living Art Museum (Nýló) and Artíma Gallery tomorrow at 8 pm, running through April 14. The festival’s focus will be on the selection of honorary artist Grétar Reynisson.Grétar Reynisson.
Grétar shares his experiences of everyday life, where he deals with the passing moment in a special way. The works by other artists selected for the festival fluctuate between the collective and general and the personal and unique, as stated in a press release.
At the turn of the millennium, Grétar decided to break away from exhibition-making and work every day from January 1, 2001, to December 31, 2010 on collecting, counting and archiving the routine of the everyday.
The white shirt that he wore became part of a subtle performance, as did the pillow that he slept on and the glass that he drank out of.
Other Sequences VI artists are: Tova Mozard (SE), Aleesa Cohene (CA), Hans Rosenström (SE/FI), Ragnar Kjartansson (IS), Emily Wardill (UK), Fiete Stolte (DE), Guido van der Werve (NL/FI), Martha Wilson (US), Meriç Algün-Ringborg (TR/SE), Magnús Logi Kristinsson (FI/IS), Erla Silfá Þorgrímsdóttir (NO/IS), Ragnheiður Gestsdóttir (IS), Tumi Magnússon (IS), Magnús Sigurðarson (IS), Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir (IS), Eva Ísleifsdóttir (IS), Kristleifur Björnsson (IS), Rebekka Erin Moran (US), Curver Thoroddsen (IS), Eygló Harðardóttir & Ríkharður H. An offspring of the dynamic art scene that thrives in Reykjavík, Sequences is the first art festival in Iceland to focus on visual art alone. It has special focus on time-based media, such as performance, sonic works, video and public interventions.
Sequences collaborates with Hótel Holt, where Sequences plays host to an events program during the festival week, including a Performance Soirée.
An Off Venue program takes places at the Reykjavík Art Museum, ASÍ Art Museum, Bíó Paradís and the Nordic House, among other venues.
