Reykjavík District Court sentenced former director of the Mozambique branch of ICEIDA (Iceland International Development Agency) Jóhann Ragnar Pálsson to 15 months in prison, of which three are suspended, for embezzlement on Monday.
A claim for damages was rejected, Fréttablaðið reports.
Jóhann had confessed to the charges when his case opened in March. In a four-year period, he defrauded almost ISK 15 million (USD 129,000, EUR 98,000).
Jóhann used the funds to buy an outboard motor and computer for his own use, and to repair his private vehicle. He tried to cover up the disappearance of the funds with false explanations.
