The project started in 2003 with 533 participants from 45 workplaces. That number increased to 11,381 participants from 666 workplaces last year.

Participants cycled a combined total of 741,449,63 kilometers, or 553.73 circles around Iceland, in 2012, Morgunblaðið reports.

More information about this year’s competition, which runs through May 28, is available on hjoladivinnuna.is (in Icelandic).
