President of the association, Sigvaldur Ástríðarson, told Fréttablaðið that the association aims to ensure that vegetarians in Iceland can lead a happy life without consuming meat.
“We want to, for example, try to improve the selection of vegetarian options at restaurants and inform people about the fact that there are many people in Iceland who don’t eat traditional Icelandic food,” he said. “We want to be able to go to a restaurant and order vegetable soup, without meat stock,” he added.
The association also aims to assist people to become vegetarian and improve labeling of vegetarian and vegan products.
