Earthquake Hits Southwest Iceland

An earthquake of a 4.8 magnitude hit at a 6-km (3.7-mile) depth, 3 km (1.9 miles) east of Reykjanestá in Southwest Iceland yesterday morning, causing furniture to shake and chandeliers to swing in Reykjanesbær.

The earthquake could also clearly be felt in Hella, South Iceland. Local resident Magnhildur Ólafsdóttir described to ruv.is how she felt her bed rattle, while in Selfoss a resident described the quake as a sudden blow.

Residents in the capital region, as well as Akranes in West Iceland, also reported to have felt the quake, and even in Hólmavík in the West Fjords there were people who stated they had felt the quake clearly.
