The President of the United States, Barack Obama, has nominated lawyer Robert C. Barber as his new Ambassador in Iceland, rúv.is reports.
The U.S. Ambassador in Iceland, Luis Arreaga. Barber was a member of Obama’s fund raising team for the 2012 presidential elections and so was former baseball player Mark Gilbert who has just been nominated as New Zealand’s new ambassador. Together they raised more than USD 500,000 (EUR 363,000, ISK 60 million) for the President’s campaign fund.
The United States Senate has yet to confirm the two nominations.
The current Ambassador to Iceland, Louis Arreaga, will soon resign his post. He has held it since 2010.
