Foreign minister of Iceland Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson announced this afternoon that Iceland will be contributing ISK 12.3 million (USD 100,000, EUR 75,000) to relief efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.
Assistance will be provided through the World Food Programme (WFP), as stated in a press release from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
The United Nations estimates that around 2.5 million people are in need of food aid.
As reported earlier today, the Filipino-Icelandic Association (FIA) is also collecting donations.
Filipinos make up one of the largest groups of foreigners in Iceland.
